Ski Turkey PDF Print E-mail

There is more to Turkey than kebabs and expensive rugs. With an unrivalled culture and history, friendly locals, outstanding landscapes, richly-adorned cities, wonderful climate and value for money, it is not surprising Turkey is traditionally a favourite summer holiday tourist destination. More and more people are discovering the country’s excellent collection of high quality ski resorts each year, with the Turkish ski season running from December to April.
Located just outside the capital of Ankara, Elmadag is easy to reach and features a huge 3,000-foot slope. Après-ski here is also good and accommodation plentiful. Closer to Istanbul, Bursa-Uludag ski resort is very well equipped and boasts giant slaloms and beginner slopes. Erzurum-Palandöken ski resort is situated in eastern Turkey and is easy to get to by plane or car. Located at a heady altitude, Erzurum has some of the best skiing in Turkey and features numerous slopes suitable for all levels of skiers. The accommodation base here is well established and there is plenty to see and do in the nearby towns and villages.

Other quality and lesser known ski resorts in Turkey include Erciyes, llgaz Dagi, Kartalkaya, Palandoken, Saklikent, Uludag and Zigana. Turkey is well connected with the six countries it borders with by air, rail, road and sea. Istanbul’s Atatürk International Airport is the busiest airport in Turkey, while airports at Ankara and İzmir also receive flights from overseas.

Direct trains run from Budapest and Bucharest to İstanbul, while major European cities are linked by reliable bus networks. It is cheap to fly within Turkey and buses offer an even cheaper alternative. Driving in Turkey can be hazardous due to bad local driving skills and busy, congested cities, although road quality is good.
