| Courchevel strike is over |
|
Courchevel lifts were open again at 9:30am this morning. Background: Strike action by S3V led to the closure of all Courchevel Valley lifts on Monday. The La Tania kids area and magic carpet is open (as it's run by the ESF). The rest of the Three Valleys lifts are unaffected - links over from Méribel to Courchevel are (officially) closed but skiable - see below. Mottaret lifts (also owned by S3V) were subject to delayed openings until 09:45. Lots of mini buses took people over to Méribel Village / Méribel from La Tania - so traffic and resort level lifts were very busy over there. Although lifts outside of Méribel coped very well with the extra skiers a trip over to Champagny / La Plagne was another option used by some skiers - only a 25 mins drive away. Meetings are still going on in 1850 with the S3V Management, the Union and the Hoteliers and Ski Schools who are all behind the S3V workers and their demands. The basic position is that the management have given themselves large pay rises over the past 5 years while the employees have had very little or nothing. They have now had enough and want the departure of Laurent Fillon (the big boss) who let's say they are not very happy with to say the least. The word is that management don't realise how strong feelings are amongst the staff... This isn't the first time that the Courchevel lift operators havethreatened to go on strike, same thing happened a few years ago, however this is the first time they actually put their threat into action.
