Squaw Valley - USA
All members of the family will be in their element here, with ski
trails for every level of experience and a plethora of other fun
activities on offer.
Squaw Valley’s resort village lies tucked beneath towering mountain
peaks that cradle a vast coverage of ski terrain. The village is
stylistically Alpine, with winding walkways, rustic cafés, vibrant
restaurants and bars, enticing shops and bohemian art galleries
combined to create a stylish yet laid-back ambience.
Squaw Valley USA is a colossal resort spanning 1,619 skiable hectares
and presenting a seemingly endless selection of ski trails made up of
25 per cent beginner routes, 45 per cent intermediate routes and 30 per
cent expert routes.
A wide-open, five-kilometre run gives long-distance skiers a chance to
find the flow; while a system of 34 lifts (including seven high-speed
lifts) has the ability to transport up to 49,000 skiers per hour.
Snowboarders have the pick of three terrain parks, including a
half-pipe, a super-pipe and a gentler park specially designed for
youngsters.
Squaw Valley USA is more than just a ski resort; it places a host of
other winter activities at visitors’ fingertips. Cross-country and ski
touring options meander through gorgeous snow-capped scenery, while
ice-skating, movie theatres, sleigh rides, snow tubing, swimming,
jacuzzi facilities, ice-fishing, mountaineering and tennis are
alternative options.
Squaw Valley is located less than 70kms from Reno, and is accessible
via I-80 and highway 89. Alternatively, the resort can be reached by
shuttle bus from Reno and Lake Tahoe’s north and south shores, via
Amtrak train transportation to nearby Truckee, or by flying into Reno
Tahoe International Airport.
