Courchevel strike is over PDF Print E-mail
Courchevel lifts were open again at 9:30am this morning.
Background:
Strike action by S3V led to the closure of all Courchevel Valley lifts on Monday. The La Tania kids area and magic carpet is open (as it's run by the ESF). The rest of the Three Valleys lifts are unaffected - links over from Méribel to Courchevel are (officially) closed but skiable - see below. Mottaret lifts (also owned by S3V) were subject to delayed openings until 09:45.
Lots of mini buses took people over to Méribel Village / Méribel from La Tania - so traffic and resort level lifts were very busy over there. Although lifts outside of Méribel coped very well with the extra skiers a trip over to Champagny / La Plagne was another option used by some skiers - only a 25 mins drive away.
Meetings are still going on in 1850 with the S3V Management, the Union and the Hoteliers and Ski Schools who are all behind the S3V workers and their demands. The basic position is that the management have given themselves large pay rises over the past 5 years while the employees have had very little or nothing. They have now had enough and want the departure of Laurent Fillon (the big boss) who let's say they are not very happy with to say the least. The word is that management don't realise how strong feelings are amongst the staff... This isn't the first time that the Courchevel lift operators havethreatened to go on strike, same thing happened a few years ago, however this is the first time they actually put their threat into action.

KICK OFF THIS SUMMER....

....with a holiday in Austria. Once again football isn't coming home but that doesn't mean a trip to Austria or Switzerland needs to be ruled out. Recommend that clients fly to Innsbruck or Salzburg and stay in one of the traditional resorts and enjoy a relaxing summer break away from it all. The nearby Austrian resorts will not be affected by the football, even during the period from 7th - 29th June, in fact Innsbruck and Salzburg host their last game on 18th June, so it is business as usual in these regions. And if they do fancy venturing to a game at least they will be in a neutral capacity, be able to mingle with the fans and cheer on the winning side (for once!). Suggest that your clients depart in June and stay at the 4* Ferienhotel Kaltschmid in Seefeld for 7 nights on half board with prices starting from £561 per person, including flights from Gatwick and resort transfers.  Flights are also available from Exeter +£61, Bristol +£61, Birmingham +£54, East Midlands +£61, Manchester +£61, Leeds-Bradford +£65, Newcastle +£71 & Edinburgh +£81. Call 020 8313 3999.

SHOW ME THE WAY TO GO

Immerse yourselves in a tour of the Venetian highlights, visiting the Adriatic pearls of Slovenia, Croatia and Italy. From the coast, the tour will take participants to the hinterlands where natural attractions, charming cities and the Julian Alps await them. These three diverse yet interesting countries are steeped in history blending cultural traditions, music, folklore and cuisine. Departures on 14th or 28th May, 11th June, 27th August or 10th September for 10 nights start from £959 per person, including flights from Gatwick, Stansted or Manchester (+£46), accommodation on half-board in 3* & 4* hotels in Opatija, Bovec, Kranjska Gora and Ljubljana, a visit to Venice, four guided tours and escorted coach travel throughout the tour. Call 020 8313 3999.

Departures on 10th May staying at the 4* Hotel Arcadia on B&B have prices starting from £449 including flights with British Airways from London Heathrow.
